“…On the other hand, the relative intensity of Lewis acid sites band at 1460 cm −1 slightly increased by alkali-treatment. Similar results were reported by Ogura et al [36], where little dealumination of the zeolite sample occurred due to alkali-treatment. …”

“…However, the drawback of the published work using zeolite catalysts for the Biginelli reaction is the long working time under hazards conditions and the moderate product yield (Table 1). It was reported that the desilication and subsequent dealumination of HZSM5 shorten the diffusion path length and enhance the transport rate of all aromatic molecules [36][37][38], leading to enhanced activity and selectivity compared to the parent material [35,39].…”

“…Alkaline treatment of zeolites has been reported to dissolve siliceous species from the framework, thereby producing regular mesopores and leaving the microporous framework intact. [71,72] The mechanism of alkaline desilication of ZSM-5 has been studied in detail and it was found that desilication is directed by framework Al 3þ , and an optimal Si/Al range of 25-50 was established. Desilication results in mesopore surface areas (as analysed by N 2 physisorption) as large as 200 m 2 /g, coupled with a loss in micropore volume of less than 25%.…”
