Algoriphagus chungangensis sp. nov., isolated from a tidal flat sediment

Abstract: A Gram-stain-negative, non-spore-forming, non-motile, strictly aerobic, rod-shaped bacterial strain, designated CAU 1002 T , was isolated from a tidal flat sediment and its taxonomic position was investigated using a polyphasic approach. Strain CAU 1002 T grew optimally at 30 6C and pH 7.5. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain CAU 1002 T formed a distinct lineage within the genus Algoriphagus and was most closely related to Algoriphagus lutimaris KCTC 22630 T and Algoriph… Show more

“…Strain MDM-1 T exhibited 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity of 98.5, 98.2, 97.4 and 97.2 % to A. halophilus KCTC 12051 T , A. lutimaris S1-3 T , A. machipongonensis DSM 24695 T and A. chungangensis KCTC 23759 T , respectively, 92.8–97.6 % similarity to the type strains of other species of the genus Algoriphagus and less than 91.5 % similarity to the other strains used in the phylogenetic analysis. The predominant isoprenoid quinone detected in strain MDM-1 T was menaquinone 7 (MK-7), which is compatible with that of A. halophilus , A. lutimaris , A. machipongonensis and A. chungangensis (Nedashkovskaya et al , 2004; Park et al , 2010; Alegado et al , 2013; Kang et al , 2013). The cellular fatty acid profile of strain MDM-1 T is shown in , together with those of the type strains of five phylogenetically closely related species of the genus Algoriphagus grown and analysed under identical conditions.…”

“…The genus Algoriphagus , a member of the family Cyclobacteriaceae , was proposed by Bowman et al (2003) to accommodate a Gram-negative, catalase-negative, oxidase-positive, small coccobacillus, Algoriphagus ratkowskyi . At the time of writing, the genus Algoriphagus was represented by 28 species with validly published names, isolated from various environments, including algae (Nedashkovskaya et al , 2004), a freshwater pipe (Rau et al , 2012), lakes (Van Trappen et al , 2004; Liu et al , 2009), seawater (Lee et al , 2012; Oh et al , 2012), tidal-flat sediments (Park et al , 2010; Li et al , 2011; Kang et al , 2013; Kim et al , 2014; Park et al , 2014) and soil (Yoon et al , 2006; Young et al , 2009). In this study, a novel bacterial strain, designated MDM-1 T , which was isolated from a tidal-flat sediment, is described.…”

“…The isoprenoid quinones were eluted by a mixture of methanol/2-propanol (2 : 1, v/v) using a flow rate of 1 ml min 21 at room temperature and detected by UV absorbance at 270 nm. The predominant isoprenoid quinone detected in strain HJM-2 T was menaquinone-7 (MK-7) in line with the genus Algoriphagus (Nedashkovskaya et al, , 2007Kang et al, 2013;Park et al, 2014). For cellular fatty acid analysis, cell mass of strain HJM-2 T was harvested from MA plates after cultivation for 3, 5 and 7 days at 30 8C and cell mass of A. taiwanensis JCM 19755 T was harvested from MA plates after cultivation for 5 days at 30 8C.…”

“…The genus Algoriphagus , a member of the family Cyclobacteriaceae , was proposed by Bowman et al (2003). Members of the genus are Gram-staining-negative, non-motile and rod-shaped and have iso-C 15 : 0 as the major fatty acid (Kang et al , 2013). At the time of writing, the genus comprises 26 species (http://www.bacterio.net/a/algoriphagus.html).…”
