Algae Mediated Green Fabrication of Silver Nanoparticles and Examination of Its Antifungal Activity against Clinical Pathogens

Abstract: Algae extract has the great efficiency to synthesize the silver nanoparticles as a green route. Brown seaweed mediates the synthesis of silver nanomaterials using extract of Sargassum longifolium. For the improved production of silver nanomaterials, some kinetic studies such as time incubation and pH were studied in this work. 10 mL of algal extract was added into the 1 mM AgNO 3 aqueous solution. The pH and reaction time range were changed and the absorbance was taken for the characterization of the nanoparti… Show more

“…Recently, Vinayaga Moorthi et al (2015) reported the insecticidal activity of silver nanoparticles synthesized using Sargassum muticum against the common castor butterfly Ariadne merione, outlining changes in the protein profile of hemolymph, morphology of hemocytes, and deteriorated midgut inclusions. Furthermore, Sargassum longifolium-synthesized silver nanoparticles have been found toxic against the pathogenic fungi Aspergillus fumigatus, Candida albicans, and Fusarium sp., even at low dosages (Rajeshkumar et al 2014). …”

“…A positive control of ketoconazole disks and negative control of water was also added to the plate. The zone of inhibition was measured after incubation at room temperature for 24-48 h [16]. The relative percentage inhibition of the test fungal strains against positive control was calculated with respect to the given formula [17].…”

“…Nanoparticles are gaining reputation as multifaceted materials exhibiting novel or advanced characteristics compared to larger particles [31], [38], [45]. Smaller sized nanoparticles display higher surface-to-volume ratio; a feature vital to catalytic reactivity, thermal conductivity, antimicrobial activity, chemical steadiness, and non-linear optical performance [22].…”
