In this paper, a comprehensive study of a DBD reactor is conducted to investigate the optimum operating conditions of the reactor for NOx treatment. For each parameter, the objective is to find the maximum NOx removal efficiency with the minimum consumed power. Different effective parameters of the reactor i.e. electrode length and diameter, electrode and dielectric materials as well as parameters of power generator, i.e. voltage and frequency, are investigated. The results show that for this configuration, the electrode with 20 cm length and 10 mm diameter has the best performance. Aluminum as the inside electrode material and quartz as the dielectric material are selected. Furthermore, the optimum value for the pulse frequency is 16.6 kHz. For the mentioned optimum conditions, the NOx removal efficiency achieved is equal to almost 82% at the input power of 486 W. Furthermore, the highest achieved NOx removal is almost 92% at the input power of 864 W. The results of this paper can be used to reduce the energy consumption of NTP systems to acceptable levels.

In this paper atmospheric-pressure rf He+O2 cold plasmas are studied by means of a 1-D fluid model. 17 species and 60 key reactions selected from a study of 250+ reactions are incorporated in the model. O2+, O3-, and O are the dominant positive ion, negative ion, and reactive oxygen species, respectively. Ground state O is mainly generated by electron induced reactions and quenching of atomic and molecular oxygen metastables, while three-body reactions leading to the formation of O2 and O3 are the main mechanisms responsible for O destruction. The fraction of input power dissipated by ions is ∼20%. For the conditions considered in the study ∼6% of the input power is coupled to ions in the bulk and this amount will increase with increasing electronegativity. Radial and electrode losses of neutral species are in most cases negligible when compared to gas phase processes as these losses are diffusion limited due to the large collisionality of the plasma. The electrode loss rate of neutral species is found to be nearly independent of the surface adsorption probability p for p > 0.001 and therefore plasma dosage can be quantified even if p is not known precisely.

In the present study, experimental and numerical analyses were adopted to clarify key reactive species for methanol decomposition processes using a nonthermal plasma flow. The nonthermal plasma flow was generated by a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) as a radical production source. The experimental methods were as follows. Working gas was air of 1 -10 Sl/min. The peak-to-peak applied voltage was 16 -20 kV with sine wave of 1 Hz -7 kHz. The characteristics of gas velocity, gas temperature, ozone concentration and methanol decomposition efficiency were measured.
