Agreement of Corneal Diameter Measurements Obtained by a Swept-source Biometer and a Scheimpflug-based Topographer

Abstract: According to the results of this study, the IOLMaster 700 may overestimate the WTW distance measurements by up to 0.78 mm compared with the Pentacam HR, so these 2 devices should not be used interchangeably for this purpose. The agreement is somehow weaker for eyes with WTW distances of 11.50 mm or less than those with WTW distances greater than 11.50 mm.

“…The agreement between the measurements of the two devices was not clinically acceptable (95% LoA of −0.088 and −0.545 mm). Our data are in accordance with two previous studies 30 , 31 which concluded that the IOLMaster 700 overestimates the WTW distance compared with the Pentacam device in healthy corneas. This finding was expected because keratoconus does not affect the corneal diameter.…”

“…Only one study compared two of the instruments we have analyzed: the IOLMaster 700 and the Pentacam HR [12]. In fact, there are no studies comparing WTW measured with the Anterior SS-OCT and the Cassini.…”

“…In fact, there are no studies comparing WTW measured with the Anterior SS-OCT and the Cassini. This study, carried out by Salouti et al [12], evaluated the agreement between the measurements obtained in 100 patients using the IOLMaster 700 and the Pentacam HR. They reported mean values of 11.72 ± 0.45 mm and 11.41 ± 0.42 mm for the IOLMaster 700 and Pentacam HR, respectively.…”

“…The high precision was similar to those published by Lattimore et al and Shajari et al ( 39 ). However, Salouti et al ( 40 ) showed poor agreement for CD measurements between the SS-OCT optical biometer (IOLMaster 700) and the same rotating Scheimpflug camera (95% LoA, −0.17 and 0.78 mm). These results suggest that the accuracy of CD measurements depends on the method that each device uses to define the limbus and the quality of the anterior segment images that are generated.…”
