“…But more and more studies show that the Xing'an Block consists mainly of Phanerozoic igneous and sedimentary rocks (Wu et al, ). The recently dated Precambrian basement rocks should be a part of the Erguna Block according to new studies (Cui et al, ; Feng, Liu, Li, et al, ; Miao, Zhang, Zhu, & Liu, ; W. Sun et al, ).…”

“…(b) What is the true location of the northern extension of the HNHS and did the closure of the Nenjiang‐Heihe ocean occur in the late Devonian (K. D. Tang, Shao, & Li, ; B. Xu, Jacques, & Zhang, ; B. Xu et al, ), early Carboniferous (Cui et al, ; Feng et al, , ; J. Y. Li, ; G. Liu et al, ), or Permian–Triassic (Chen, Jahn, Wilde, & Xu, ; G. H. Shi et al, ; D. Y. Sun, Wu, Li, & Lin, ; Tong et al, ); and (c) What is the nature and northern extension of the XXS (Feng, Liu, Jin, Li, & Wen, ; Feng et al, ; Feng, Liu, Liu, et al, ; Feng, Liu, Li, et al, ; Ge et al, ; R. “…The Xing'an block was previously regarded as a Precambrian block (Zhou et al, 2011), although Precambrian magmatic events are not widely distributed. The previously regarded Precambrian Xinkailing Group, Luomahu Group, Ergun Formation, Wolegen Group and Fengshuigou River Group were all formed in the late Paleozoic-early Mesozoic (Xu et al, 2012;Sun et al, 2014;Cui et al, 2015;Feng et al, 2017). Provenance analysis of the early Paleozoic sedimentary rocks and Hf isotopic study of igneous zircons indicated that the source area is mainly juvenile crust Han et al, 2015).…”

“…The CGXR is mainly composed of the XB (Figure b). Lithostratigraphic units of the XB have been identified as (1) the Xilin Gol Complex in the southern GXR (1,026–1,005 Ma; Ge et al, ; Li et al, ); (2) a so‐called Precambrian basement suggested by recent studies in the northern‐central GXR (e.g., Xinkailing Group, Luomahu Group, and Fengshuigou Group; HBGMR, ; Sun et al, ), which formed during the Early Palaeozoic–Early Mesozoic (Miao et al, , ; Xu, Xu, Wang, & Gao, ) and is separated by the EB (Feng et al, ); (3) a discontinuous Early Palaeozoic metamorphosed volcanic‐sedimentary sequence with island arc Cu–Mo mineralization affinity, identified in the northern GXR (Chen, Zhang, et al, ; HBGMR, ; Wang, Tong, et al, ); (4) Early Palaeozoic strata associated with marine sediments and Late Palaeozoic–Early Mesozoic strata consisting of marine and marine‐continental facies sediments such as the Permian Dashizhai, Zhesi, and Linxi formations and the Early Triassic Laolongtou Formation (IMBGMR, ); and (5) voluminous Mesozoic igneous rocks and a Mo–Cu–Pb–Zn metallogenic belt distributed across the CGXR (Ge, Wu, Zhou, & Zhang, ; HBGMR, ; Wu et al, ; Zhai et al, ; Zhang, Wu, Wan, & Chen, ; Zhou, Zeng, Chu, Zhou, & Yang, , in press). Lithostratigraphic units of group (5) are the focus of this study.…”
