“…Nile red (Nile blue A oxazone) is a commonly employed hydrophobic dye in the study of biological systems such as membranes, micelles, reverse micelles and proteins, and for staining biological tissues . This dye has also been widely used in the studies of various organized assemblies such as zeolites, liquid crystals, LB films, and planar supported membranes…”

“…NR is soluble in a wide range of solvents and supercritical fluids, and it has been used as an empirical scale for solvent polarity. Thus, the spectroscopic properties of NR are alterated by the effective polarity of the environment and this may be explained in terms of twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT). NR has been widely used in solvents, lipids, reverse micellar systems, , proteins, enzymes, polymers, , Langmuir−Blodgett films, and zeolites . Absorption measurements of NR have been reported by Lobnik and Wolfbeis 22 to obtain information about the polarity in ORMOSILs layers prepared with different proportions of TMOS and phenyltrimethoxysilane, octyltrimethoxysilane, or methyltrimethoxysilane.…”

“…Here, C153 was chosen as the donor and NR as the acceptor. NR is known to be a common biological probe used to study membranes, 59 micelles, 60 reverse micelles, 46 and proteins. 61 Thus, FRET involving NR is expected to provide important insight into the dimensions of these vesicular systems and distances in these assemblies.…”
