Affcting of Morphological Traits on Stem Borer Resistance in Some Rice Genotypes

Abstract: The rice stem borer (Chilo agamemnon Bles.) is one of the most devastating insects of rice which reducing rice yield in Egypt. The use of resistant rice genotypes remains one of the most reliable methods to control this insect. This investigation aimed to study the mechanisms of resistance (antixenosis, antibiosis and tolerance) in seventeen rice genotypes were evaluated under greenhouse and field conditions. Level of larvae feeding on rice plant was one of the parameter for antixenosis, while weight of larvae… Show more

“…The knowledge of combining ability, type of gene action controlling economic traits and heterosis is useful in fixing the appropriate parent lines, and in designing successful crosses [18]. The half diallel crossing mating design provides reliable information on the general and specific combining ability effects of parents and their cross combinations [19] and has been effectively applied in various previous quantitative genetic investigations in maize [20]. Besides, understating the genetic diversity and variability in agromorphological traits in the local germplasm is critical to retrieve their genotypic information.…”

“…For the reaction to insect the Giza 179 as IndicaL/Japonica rice variety was moderately tolerant under late of sowing. So, the optimum sowing date is very important to avoid the infection from leave minor and stem borer then increase the grain yield, these results were confirmed by El-Aidy et al (2000); El-Adl et al (2011) and Antunes et al, (2016).…”
