Advances in Cancer Therapeutics: Conventional Thermal Therapy to Nanotechnology-Based Photothermal Therapy

Abstract: In this review, advancement in cancer therapy that shows a transition from conventional thermal therapies to laser-based photothermal therapies is discussed. Laser-based photothermal therapies are gaining popularity in cancer therapeutics due to their overall outcomes. In photothermal therapy, light is converted into heat to destruct the various types of cancerous growth. The role of nanoparticles as a photothermal agent is emphasized in this review article. Magnetic, as well as non-magnetic, nanoparticles hav… Show more

“…With the help of advanced optical imaging technology, real-time dynamic monitoring of molecules in cells and organisms can be carried out, and rapid immunofluorescence analysis of primary infectious disease sources can be carried out. They can provide new technologies and methods for disease occurrence, diagnosis, and treatment research [150].…”

“…In comparison to SWNTs and GO, the non-toxic production process and unique morphology enable SWNHs to have different nano-protein and nano-membrane interaction patterns [51]. Like CNTs and GO, CNHs also lack solubility in aqueous media, which seriously hampered their practical application [52,53]. Unlike the previously mentioned carbon-based nanomaterials, CDs with sizes less than 10 nm and ideal water solubility, as the fourth type of carbon-based nanomaterials, have received considerable attention since they were firstly reported in 2004 [54].…”

“…Because of its high specificity and minimally invasive advantages, photothermal therapy (PTT) has recently been a research hotspot among therapeutic techniques for HCC. 6 Photothermal therapy employs a light source with good tissue penetration to irradiate the tumor site. The photosensitizer can transform light energy into heat energy, allowing thermal ablation of the tumor site to be performed.…”
