This phenomenological-qualitative study aimed to describe how an abusive parent-child relationship of selected Filipino adolescents from an intact family of low socioeconomic status affects the perceptions of their potential romantic partner, marriage, and family. The study also uncovered their coping mechanisms and support system. The seven informants were identified using a purposive sampling technique. The researchers devised an open-ended interview guide to elicit information from the informants and were conducted with a guidance counsellor. With the use of content analysis, the study revealed that their abusive experiences with one or both parents have significantly affected their perceptions. Most of them have resorted to using negative coping strategies and that their grandparents stood as their extended family support system with their friends as their non-family support system. The informants displayed a significantly entrenched position on the characteristics of their future marital partner and family. However, they have shown disapproval of marriage due to their experiences. The study also exposed that mothers have been more present in the abusive parent-child experiences than the fathers, which contradicts expectations that fathers act as strict disciplinarians and mothers being the child's protector in Philippine Culture. The study exposed the experiences of children in verbal and physical abuse in their homes from intact families with low socioeconomic status in Metro Manila, wherein expounds on the type of social support these children have been given and the kinds of coping mechanisms that are prevalent in their experiences and how these abusive parent-child experiences reflected with either positive or negative on their perception of marital partner, the concept of marriage, and concept of family, wherein provides substantial knowledge on how these experiences can be handled and faced in terms of treatment.

Latar belakang: Permasalahan kesehatan reproduksi pada remaja semakin meningkat dari tahun ke tahun. Remaja yang tinggal di panti asuhan merupakan remaja yang rawan mengalami gangguan dan masalah kesehatan reproduksi karena mereka tidak tinggal dengan orang tuanya. Tujuan: Menganalisis hubungan pola komunikasi orang tua dengan perilaku seksual berisiko (pengetahuan dan sikap) pada remaja yang tinggal di panti asuhan di Kabupaten Klaten tahun 2020. Metode: Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah explanatory research dengan pendekatan survei. Adapun penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian cross sectional study dengan hipotesis adanya hubungan pola komunikasi orang tua dengan pengetahuan dan sikap remaja tentang kesehatan reproduksi. Responden berjumlah sebanyak 40 orang remaja panti asuhan berusia 12–16 tahun. Variabel yang diuji adalah pola komunikasi, media informasi, kebiasaan bersosialisasi, dukungan orang terdekat, pengetahuan, dan sikap. Instrumen penelitian menggunakan angket dengan jenis uji univariat dan bivariat. Hasil: Analisis statistik menunjukkan hasil bahwa tidak terdapat hubungan dukungan orang terdekat (p=0,859) dan pola komunikasi (p=0,140) dengan perilaku seksual berisiko (pengetahuan dan sikap) responden. Terdapat hubungan media informasi (p=0,007) dan kebiasaan bersosialisasi (p=0,032) dengan perilaku seksual berisiko (pengetahuan dan sikap) responden. Kesimpulan: Faktor yang berhubungan dengan pengetahuan dan sikap responden remaja mengenai kesehatan reproduksi adalah media untuk mendapatkan informasi dan kebiasaan bersosialisasi. Child sexual abuse (CSA) is an important social problem observed in the world in general. This study initially aimed to identify whether the Gender Equality Scale was a valid and reliable measurement device for use in adult individuals. To this aim, validity and reliability studies for the Gender Equality Scale were performed with 353 adults reached though an online survey. The second aim of the study was to seek an answer to the question of whether gender and gender equality variables significantly predict CSA myths. A total of 769 individuals were reached through online surveys to determine predictors of CSA myths. According to the findings, the Gender Equality Scale was determined to be a valid and reliable tool for use with adults. Moreover, the understanding that men are superior and the understanding that women are dependent on men, which are gender variables, explain 38% of CSA myths, while only the understanding that men are superior significantly predicted CSA myths. Consequently, to reduce the sexism led by the understanding that men are superior, studies can be carried out not only with adults but also with other layers of the society in accordance with the ecological system approach.
