“…Descriptive statistics indicated substantial day-to-day variation in self-regulation, which accounted for 61% of the overall variance as indicated by the ICC, thereby paralleling earlier evidence (Blume et al, 2021;Liborius et al, 2019;Ludwig et al, 2016;Schmid et al, 2020).…”

“…As for self-regulation, research considering fluctuations on the within-person level provided evidence for self-regulation to vary within individuals (e.g., from day to day; Blume et al, 2021;Boker & Nesselroade, 2002;Liborius et al, 2019;Ludwig et al, 2016;Schmid et al, 2020). Only few studies considered associations between self-regulation and related constructs on the within-person level; however, Ludwig and Rauch (2018) found pre-schoolers' STUDENTS' DAILY SELF-REGULATION AT SCHOOL 9 self-regulation and positive affect to be associated.…”

“…As such, self-regulation was usually assessed at only one point in time, which does not give justice to potential fluctuations within individuals, however. Nevertheless, it is well established today that self-regulation also varies within individuals, hence fluctuating over time (Liborius, Bellhäuser, & Schmitz 2019;Ludwig, Haindl, Laufs, & Rauch 2016;Schmid, Stadler, Dirk, Fiege, & Gawrilow 2020;Schmitz & Wiese 2006). Empirical evidence furthermore suggested that an individual's momentary selfregulation varies in response to characteristics of the situation currently experienced.…”

“…ICD-10 also notes the diagnostic difficulties stemming from the fact that inattention and overactivity can be symptoms of anxiety or depressive disorders. In addition, reported symptoms of ADHD fluctuate on a day-to-day basis, which suggests that clinicians may have to make repeated assessments of an individual's symptoms to set an accurate diagnosis (Schmid, Stadler, Dirk, Fiege, & Gawrilow, 2016). The question also arises as to whether ADHD actually exists as a distinct entity (categorical) or whether it is better understood as lying on a continuum (dimensional).…”
