Introduction:In the 1990s, Brazil adopted a public policy that allowed for universal, free access to antiretroviral therapy (ART). Since then, treatment adherence has become a new challenge for administrators of sexually transmitted disease/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (STD/AIDS) policies. This study quantified adherence to ART and verified whether there is an association between sociodemographic variables and clinical/laboratory data in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patients. Methods: This was a cross-sectional, exploratory study with a quantitative approach that was conducted over 8 months.The target population contained patients who were assisted at the ambulatory care facility specialized in STD/AIDS of a mediumsize city located in Northwest São Paulo. In order to verify the level of adherence to ART, a validated CEAT-VIH (Assessment of Adherence to Antiretroviral Therapy Questionnaire) questionnaire was used. Sociodemographic aspects and clinical/laboratory data were obtained from the medical records. The results were analyzed using the Student's t-test and Pearson's coefficient. Results: Herein, 109 patients were interviewed, 56% of whom were male. The age of the population ranged 18-74 years (mean 45.67 years). Adherence to ART was classified as insufficient in 80.7% of cases. There was an association between ART adherence and presence of symptoms and/or opportunistic infection (p=0.008) and economic status (p<0.001). Conclusions: Adherence to ART among HIV carriers cared for by the public health system is low. Patients who reported a favorable economic status and those without symptoms and/or opportunistic infection demonstrated greater treatment adherence than those who needed to take more than 3 pills a day.

Diagnósticos de enfermagem associados às necessidades humanas no enfrentamento do HIV Diagnósticos de enfermería asociado con las necesidades humanas en el enfrentamiento del VIH Abstract Objective: To identify the implications and changes in the life of people taking into consideration the moment at which the HIV diagnosis was revealed and to develop nursing diagnoses suitable to the human needs related to these implications and changes. Methods: Retrospective descriptive study, with a qualitative approach, which included interviews with 20 people who participated in a nongovernmental organization. The analysis corpus was organized into three categories: "infl uence of the diagnosis on employability", "religious support", and "health worsening", from which nursing diagnoses were developed in accordance with the 2015 version of the ICNP ® and human needs. Results: The present study identifi ed changes in the daily routine when people were faced with the diagnosis, including the infl uence on employability, religious support, and health worsening, in addition to 35 nursing diagnoses related to self-esteem, safety and protection, and social needs, 26 to the self-recognition need, seven to the physiological need, and 18 to the spiritual need. Conclusion: The identifi cation of the categories, nursing diagnoses, and human needs provides nurs es with subsidies to carry out their practice grounded in a standardized language, helping improve nursing care. ResumoObjetivo: Identifi car as implicações e mudanças na vida do indivíduo, considerando o momento da revelação do diagnóstico de HIV, e construir diagnósticos de enfermagem adequados às necessidades humanas relacionadas às implicações e mudanças. Métodos: Pesquisa descritiva retrospectiva, de abordagem qualitativa. Foram entrevistadas 20 pessoas que participam de uma organização não governamental. O corpus de análise foi organizado em três categorias: "infl uência do diagnóstico na empregabilidade", "apoio religioso" e "piora da saúde". A partir delas foram elaborados diagnósticos de enfermagem, de acordo com a CIPE ® , versão 2015, e segundo as necessidades humanas. Resultados: Frente ao diagnóstico, foi relatado modifi cações no cotidiano como a infl uência na empregabilidade, apoio religioso e a piora da saúde. Foram identifi cados 35 diagnósticos de enfermagem relacionados às necessidades de autoestima, segurança e proteção e sociais, 26 relacionados à necessidade de autorreconhecimento, 7 à necessidade fi siológica e 18 à necessidade espiritual. Conclusão: com a identifi cação das categorias, dos DE e necessidades humanas, o enfermeiro se apropria de subsídios para a realização de uma prática pautada em uma linguagem padronizada auxiliando na melhoria da assistência de enfermagem.
