Adapting the UTAUT2 Model for Social Commerce Context

Abstract: Social commerce (SC) became a major channel for conducting business as a result of the ban adopted by many countries because of Covid-19 era. The simplicity of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and use of Technology (UTAUT) and its extended version (UTAUT2) invites researchers to explore other options that can yield better explanation of the adoption of SC. This study extended the UTAUT2 with perceived value, trust and a SC related construct. In addition, the study re-structured the UTAUT2 to fit with SC enviro… Show more

“…Though UTAUT3 is the latest improvement there is a dearth of studies utilizing UTAUT3 for social media research. Instead, UTAUT2 has been found more suitable for studies involving social media acceptance (Gharaibeh et al, 2020;Mishra et al, 2022;Shoheib & Abu-Shanab, 2022). It is also in line with the study conducted by Tuten (2020) that reveals that UTAUT2 explains the majority of the variation in the behavioral intention to use social media applications.…”

“…The study addresses this issue by making use of the determinants of technology acceptance available in the UTAUT2 model proposed by Venkatesh et al (2012). This model has great relevance for social media-based research (Shoheib & Abu-Shanab, 2022). Further, the multi-group path analysis using structural equation modeling is utilized to understand the differences between two groups of generations.…”

“…Drawing on these findings, the study offers several theoretical contributions and sheds light on several practical implications for developers, designers and decision-makers promoting the use of the Metaverse [21]. In another context, Shoeib et al, [22] applied UTAUT2 by extended the UTAUT2 with perceived value, trust and a restructured social commerce construct. The study [22] utilised 463 surveys distributed in Qatar and analysed the data using Structural Equation Model.…”

“…In another context, Shoeib et al, [22] applied UTAUT2 by extended the UTAUT2 with perceived value, trust and a restructured social commerce construct. The study [22] utilised 463 surveys distributed in Qatar and analysed the data using Structural Equation Model. It is reported by [22] that the results fully supported the proposed model, where trust, perceived value, facilitating conditions and hedonic motivation significantly predicted behavioural intentions with an R2 value equal to 72%.…”

“…COVID-19 has influenced various global trends, one of which is the rapid expansion of online shopping via social networking sites (SNS) (Shoheib & Abu-Shanab, 2022). All transactions before, during, and after purchase on an SNS are included in social commerce (s-commerce) activities, including decisions about purchasing, purchasing preferences, and customer service (Esmaeili & Hashemi, 2019).…”
