Adaptation, translation, and validation of information literacy assessment instrument

Abstract: The assessment of information literacy (IL) at the school level is mainly dependent on the measurement tools developed by the Western world. “…Information literacy has experienced several turns since its inception in the 1970s (Behrens, 1994;Limberg et al, 2012;Lloyd et al, 2013). As of 2021, it is a contested research area with several overlapping and contrasting conceptualizations that broadly represent two major strengths: (1) information literacy as a set of skills and knowledge needed to access and evaluate information and its sources, and to seek, search, manage, evaluate or use the information for completing tasks (ACRL, 2016;Syazillah et al, 2018); and (2) information literacy as a social construction of knowledge in a context where one's relationship with different types of information is at the heart of gaining expertise in a context (Lloyd, 2006).…”

“…Thirdly, in order to explore the relationship between item difficulty and students' ability, this study generated an item-person map using a Rasch model. This is a graphical representation of person-abilities and item-difficulties, drawn based on the equal measures (logits) of the raw item difficulties and raw person scores [73]. The item-person map is divided into four quadrants, in which person estimates and item estimates are distributed on the left and right sides, respectively, based on person-ability and item-difficulty estimates [74].…”
