Accuracy of real-time shear wave elastography in staging hepatic fibrosis: a meta-analysis

Abstract: Background: Chronic liver disease (CLD) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality and can lead to hepatic fibrosis. This study was conducted to evaluate the diagnostic value of real-time shear wave elastography (SWE) in the assessment of hepatic fibrosis. Methods: A systematic search of databases was performed for publications on SWE during the period between 2010 and 2017. The identified studies were analyzed using Meta-disc 1.4 software to integrate and analyze the data. Results: Eleven studies compri… Show more

“…Review of the current literature shows that exclusive focus on people with obesity is limited. The studies have elucidated that obesity may influence evaluation performance of LSM [ 60 ] and is associated with a decline in area under receiver operating characteristics curve (AUROC) values [ 4 ]. Nonetheless, good diagnostic performance was observed even in the presence of obesity and severe obesity.…”

“…A recent meta-analysis conducted by Fu et al [ 60 ] evaluated the diagnostic value of 2D-SWE in the assessment of hepatic fibrosis. The authors suggest that several factors, including the number of measurements, liver volumes, fibrosis stage, gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT), serum albumin, and patient’s conditions, such as overweight or obesity and/or other complications, may influence the evaluation performance for LSM.…”

“…In contrast, liver biopsy is no longer considered as the first-line method in routine daily practice and only preferred in selected cases where there is uncertainty or potential additional etiologies [ 1 3 ]. SWE has been extensively validated and recognized as an accurate technique for staging liver fibrosis [ 10 , 23 ]. Thus, similar to other studies, we used ultrasound elastography for the assessment of advanced-stage fibrosis instead of liver biopsy [ 24 , 25 ].…”

“…Различия значений модуля Юнга для степени фиброза F2 у пациентов с различной этиологией фиброза составили 2,6 кПа, для F3 по МЕТАВИР -5,3 кПа и для F4 -8,5 кПа. Значения упругости для степеней фиброза F2, F3 по МЕТАВИР у пациентов в рамках одной нозологии раз личались максимально на 3,5 кПа, в то время как для F3, F4 -на 6,6 кПа [12].…”
