Absorption behaviors of surfactant molecules on a lipid-coated quartz-crystal microbalance. An alternative to eye-irritant tests

Abstract: The absorption behaviors of 13 kinds of surfactant molecules in a lipid matrix were studied by using a synthetic dlmethyldioctadecylammonium poly(styrene-4-sulfonate) (2C18N+-2C1/PSS') microbalance or a naturally Occurring dlpalmttoylphosphatldylethanoiamine (DPPE) multlbilayer filmcoated quartz-crystal microbalance (QCM) In distilled water. The resonance frequency of the lipid-coated QCM decreased linearly with Increasing the mass of substances deposited in the lipid matrix on the QCM, and the partition coeff… Show more

“…The partitioning of SDS in DPPE layers was established by Colberg et al (25). Okahata and Ebato studied the adsorption of different detergents at DPPE layers (26) and Johnsson et al. that one of a triblock copolymer on unilamellar egg phosphatidylcholine vesicles (27).…”

“…This technique also only needs a simple preparation of the target sample. Since QCM detects bound molecular mass by the change in resonator frequency, purity of the sample solution is not required, and this is one of great advantages of this new method. Although the present study was done using rabbit muscle, a similar result is expected for porcine or bovine muscle because proteolysis of skeletal muscle TnT occurs among these animals …”

“…By substitution of the values of the fluorophore concentration depth profile C&) shown in Figure 3A into eq 2, the theoretical fluorescence intensity F (8) was calculated and represented as the solid, dashed, and dotted lines in Figure 2 for immersing times of 7.5, 3.5, and 0 h, respectively. The calculated values of F (8) have been scaled so as to agree with the experimental values near the maximum F (8).…”
