A vision-based masking model for spread-spectrum image watermarking

Abstract: Abstract-We present a perceptual model for hiding a spreadspectrum watermark of variable amplitude and density in an image. The model takes into account the sensitivity and masking behavior of the human visual system by means of a local isotropic contrast measure and a masking model. We compare the insertion of this watermark in luminance images and in the blue channel of color images. We also evaluate the robustness of such a watermark with respect to its embedding density. Our results show that this approach… Show more

“…For instance, Ferwerda et al proposed a visual masking model allowing one to predict the influence of one visual pattern on another [FSPG97]. In a different field, Kutter et al designed a vision-based masking model for spread-spectrum image watermarking [KW02]. Finally, Daly exploited both luminance and contrast masking for the definition of VDP [Dal93].…”

“…Kutter at al. [8] investigated watermarking of luminance and blue-channels using a perceptual model, which takes into account the sensitivity and the masking behaviour of the HVS. Nasir et al [9] suggested embedding the watermark into luminance component of the color image and use image normalization technique to reduce the effect of synchronization errors.…”
