Given the escalating population across the globe, it has become paramount to construct smart cities, aiming for improving the management of urban flows relying on efficient information and communication technologies (ICT). Vehicular sensing networks (VSNs) play a critical role in maintaining the efficient operation of smart cities. Naturally, there are numerous challenges to be solved before the wide-spread introduction of VSNs, including the conception of an accurate topological analysis method as well as of a beneficial cooperation mechanism during the process of city-wide information sharing. Hence, in this paper, we construct a VSNs-aided smart city model and appraise a range of intelligent applications in terms of both public services as well as of urban flow management. Then, the information source selection algorithm of a complex network and a reinforcement learning based city information sharing mechanism are considered, complemented by a range of open challenges. Abstract:Various control methods and applications have been introduced to power systems in order to alleviate the uncertainties of relying on renewable sources. This paper, focusing on a reactive power allocation process, discusses the development of a self-modification algorithm and its introduction to an online reference management system. The algorithm is designed to predict unexpected situations occurring in real-time operations, when, due to technical issues, the control system becomes unavailable. A test system has been formed to check the feasibility of the composed method. As the main purpose of the feasibility study is checking availability with a complex solution, case studies are designed to adapt a reactive power allocation method based on loss minimization. When unexpected systemic errors were induced, the proposed modification plan changed order automatically with maintaining previous objective function. The improved effects, caused by realistic responses, are classified according to EMTDC (Electro-Magnetic Transient Design and Control) analysis.

Abstract:The smart grid (SG) is a promising platform for providing more reliable, efficient, and cost effective electricity to the consumers in a secure manner. Numerous initiatives across the globe are taken by both industry and academia in order to compile various security issues in the smart grid network. Unfortunately, there is no impactful survey paper available in the literature on authentications in the smart grid network. Therefore, this paper addresses the required objectives of an authentication protocol in the smart grid network along with the focus on mutual authentication, access control, and secure integration among different SG components. We review the existing authentication protocols, and analyze mutual authentication, privacy, trust, integrity, and confidentiality of communicating information in the smart grid network. We review authentications between the communicated entities in the smart grid, such as smart appliance, smart meter, energy provider, control center (CC), and home/building/neighborhood area network gateways (GW). We also review the existing authentication schemes for the vehicle-to-grid (V2G) communication network along with various available secure integration and access control schemes. We also discuss the importance of the mutual authentication among SG entities while providing confidentiality and privacy preservation, seamless integration, and required access control with lower overhead, cost, and delay. This paper will help to provide a better understanding of current authentication, authorization, and secure integration issues in the smart grid network and directions to create interest among researchers to further explore these promising areas.
