A Survey of Energy Consumption Measurement in Embedded Systems

Abstract: The low-power design of software and hardware is crucial for the efficiency and sustainability of embedded systems. Accurate energy consumption measurement plays a vital role in evaluating the energy performance of software and hardware, which also provides design insights to develop new paradigms for algorithm or code optimization in terms of energy efficiency and system cost. A few literature has surveyed this research field, but it lacks multi-faceted comparisons and comprehensive analysis. In this paper, w… Show more

“…Fault tree analysis (FTA) is a top-down deductive failure analysis method, which uses Boolean logic to combine loworder events to analyze the unwanted states in the system. FTA is mainly used in the fields of safety engineering and reliability engineering to understand the causes of system failure [21][22]. A fault tree diagram often represents the FAT method to complete system fault analysis.…”

“…When working with embedded systems, very often the power consumption of the used system is limited or should be as low as possible [1,2]. The overall consumption of the system does not only depend on the used hardware but also on the software running on the embedded system.…”
