A Study on the Optimal Control of Voltage Utilization for Improving the Efficiency of PMSM

Abstract: When performing weak flux control to drive a permanent-magnet synchronous motor at high speed, the efficiency is lowered because the copper loss increases as the negative D-axis current increases. In addition, if the overmodulation index is slightly lowered and driven without setting it to the maximum value, the phase current ripple reduction effect can be expected compared to the six-step control. Therefore, if the motor is operated at a current point that can minimize the sum of copper loss and iron loss, th… Show more

“…PMSM and High-Frequency Square-Waves Voltage Injection Approach Through the utilization of MATLAB simulations, Ref. [16] carried out an experiment in which they looked at how the efficiency's features changed even as the voltage overmodulation index (MI) value changed. During actual dynamometer experimentation, an ideal MI matrix is generated, and the advantages of higher efficiency as well as current ripple reduction were confirmed.…”

“…External factors and influences were not taken into account in this investigation. Depending on the changes in motor parameters, including a changing temperature, their peak efficiency voltage level, for instance, may fluctuate as a consequence of a shift within the current operating spot [16]. High-frequency square-wave voltage injections, see Figure 1, may be used in PMSM drive systems.…”

“…The relatively good performance of these types of controllers is well-known, but when significant parametric variations occur, the performance of these types of control systems, based on PI-type controllers, decreases significantly. A number of PMSM control systems have been developed and adapted, including adaptive [9,10], optimal [11,12] and predictive [13,14], but also fuzzy [15,16] and neuro-fuzzy control systems have been invented with good results [17,18]. A backstepping controller for IM is developed in [19].…”

“…Numerous studies on AC motors have shown that permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) are critical in the field of AC motors due to their unique advantages [2]. PMSMs are extensively used in various fields, including new energy vehicles, exoskeleton systems, missile steering engines, and UAVs [3][4][5][6][7].…”
