A study on radiation effects on PWM-IC controller of DC/DC power buck converter

Abstract: DC-DC converter is composed of a PWM-IC (pulse width modulation-integrated circuit) controller, a MOSFET (metal-oxide semiconductor field effect transistor), inductor, capacitor, etc. PWM is applied to control and regulate the total output voltage. It is shown that the variation of threshold voltage at MOSFET and the offset voltage increase caused by radiation effects make the PWM pulse unstable. Radiation gives the main influence on the changes in the electrical characteristics of PWM-IC and MOSFET. In the PW… Show more

“…In this architecture, a hybrid redundancy scheme that combines Spatial and Temporal redundancies is used to design a high-reliability redundancy scheme that mitigates the problems encountered with the ordinary TMR/Simplex technique. The motivation for the proposed technique rests on the fact that radiation-induced faults result in one or more of the following effects on the DC-DC converter PWM controller output [27][28][29]:…”

“…In this aspect, it is of great significance to research on the radiation-resistant reinforcement of Buck. However, the existing research on radiation-hardened Buck is still limited to the analysis of Buck irradiation test and design of radiation devices [16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24], and the research on radiation-hard from circuit design is lacking. In this paper, a radiation-hard adaptive on-time generator is proposed by utilizing of leakage current compensation.…”
