A Study of the pB → Y K Reactions for Kaon Production in Heavy Ion Collisions

Abstract: Parametrizations of total cross sections sucient for all channels of the πB → Y K reactions are completed using a resonance model. As well as discussing the πN → ΛK reactions, which were not presented in our previous publications, we present the differential cross section for πN → ΛK. This report also aims at presenting supplementary discussions to our previous work.

“…Cross sections as estimated in refs. [1,2] have successfully been applied and a weak repulsive potential being roughly proportional to the nuclear density n of about 25 n/n 0 MeV has been extracted [3]. This knowledge is very important for understanding the production of K − which in threshold region are mainly produced in secondary collisions of nucleons and pions with hyperons (Y ) that has been created together with K + mesons.…”

“…Their properties are sum-1 marized in Table 1. Most of the coupling constants, cut-off parameters and form factors have been fixed by the previous studies for the πN → Y K (Y = Σ, Λ) reactions [6,8].…”

“…First, with the same set of parameters, one should reproduce simultaneously the experimental data for the πN → ΛK reaction. Indeed, the approach of the resonance model made previously [4] and again here uses the same parameter set consistently with that used for the study of the πN → ΛK reactions as well as the πN → ΣK reactions [6,8]. Thus, our study for this reaction does not have much freedom to vary the parameters, nor to introduce new parameters.…”
