A study of the bond behavior of FRP bars in MPC seawater concrete

Abstract: Using magnesium potassium phosphate cement (MPC) and fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) bar to produce reinforced concrete can overcome the durability problems facing conventional steel reinforced PC concrete. In addition, FRP bar reinforced MPC concrete can also mitigate the CO2 emission issues caused by Portland cement (PC) production and the shortage of natural resources such as virgin aggregates and freshwater. This paper, therefore, is aimed at investigating the bond behavior of the FRP bars in MPC seawater c… Show more

“…Such material properties of FRP are also highly suitable for new concretes made from seawater and sea sand (e.g. Bazli et al, 2021;Dong et al, 2021;Huang et al, 2021;Li et al, 2021b;Sun et al, 2021a;Xin et al, 2021). The traditional technique of FRP strengthening is externally bonding the FRP sheets/plates onto the surface of RC members (e.g.…”

“…In addition, through the comparison of curing time, it is also concluded that the tensile strength of the FRP anchor under 4‐day curing is 6% lower than that under 4‐week curing. Sun 28 and Soares et al 29 studied the effect of seawater on the mechanical properties of grout. The former replaces traditional cement by preparing potassium magnesium phosphate cement.…”
