A strong multilayered transparent wood with natural wood color and texture

Abstract: This experiment aims to study the performance of multilayered transparent wood (MLTW) under the condition of partial delignification, including the effect of lamination structure between layers and delignification process on the properties of MLTW. New Zealand pine (Pinus radiata D.Don) and Basswood (Tilia) were selected. The acid method was used to remove part lignin for preparing wood templates with natural wood color and texture, and then the polymer impregnated wood templates. During the lamination process… Show more

“…The major motivation for using MMA medium was to achieve a smoothed luminescent surface at highest transparency. [ 49,50 ] Macroscopic hardness was investigated by using different amounts of LSA NPs, as shown in Table 4. The hardness increased to 13.88 kg/mm 2 when increasing the amount of LSA NPs from LSA‐0 to LSA‐6.…”

“…For their applications, they are mainly concentrated on two aspects: reprocessing them in macrog-Materials 2021, 14, 5398 2 of 18 raphy, or decompose them into micro materials for research (such as nano materials). For example, wood is a very environmental protection and practical material, which has been widely used in construction, furniture and other fields since ancient times [10,11]. In view of how to improve the quality of wood, many scholars have made good achievements in different performance research, such as flame-retardant treatment [12], improve physical performance [13], superhydrophobic treatment [14], research on transparent wood [15,16], etc. At the micro level, wood is mainly composed of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin, in which cellulose is the main component.…”

“…Recently, some studies focus on the transparent wood [88][89][90]. The application of transparent wood mainly depends on its light transmission properties.…”
