A Smart Battery Management System for Photovoltaic Plants in Households Based on Raw Production Forecast

Abstract: A basic battery management system (BMS) permits the safe charge/discharge of the batteries and the supply of loads. Batteries are protected to avoid fast degradation: the minimum and maximum state-of-charge (SOC) limits are not exceeded and fast charge/discharge cycles are not permitted. A more sophisticated BMS connected to a photovoltaic (PV) generator could also work with the double purpose of protecting storage and reducing peak demand. Peak reduction by storage generally requires the forecast of consumpti… Show more

“…Energy and power relations are calculated during the design process to aid in the development of the system 27,28 . Specifically, the following premises are made: The initial energy of the storage battery is “ E t ” in watthour (Wh). The amount of solar power “ P PV ” emitted from a PV panel changes with time and is determined by: PPV=Pmpp3636t2 where Pmpp is the maximum output power from the PVs and “ t ” is the time in hours.…”

“…The behavior of designed system has shown in Fig. 4 which shows the participation of PV panel is very insignificant in compare with grid purchased electricity [19]. Due to the inequality in supplying power from grid and PV which results show the poor share of PV in represented case, the different range of PV has been arranged in the section 4.2 for finding the optimal balance for supplying the load between grid and PV.…”

“…The shortterm cloud shadow forecasts at the location of the PV plant are used as a control signal to the array reconfiguration process to minimize the effect due to the partial shading especially on large-scale PV plants. Further, solar forecasting is used as an input to smart battery management systems to compensate for the PV shortages [20]. Furthermore, shortterm solar PV forecasts are used in energy market activities.…”
