A Simultaneous Tuning Method for Cascade Control Systems Based on Direct Use of Plant Data

Abstract: This paper presents a novel method for tuning cascade control systems in which both primary and secondary controllers are tuned simultaneously by directly using plant data without resorting to process models. The required plant data are collected from a one-shot step test that can be conducted under either closed-loop or open-loop conditions. The goal of the proposed design is to obtain the parameters of two proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers such that the resulting inner and outer loops behave… Show more

“…As a solution to this, cascade controller is introduced having two feedback control loops to enhance system performance. The advantages of cascade controller over the single feedback control loop have been summarised in [13]. Dash et al [14] have proposed the cascade proportional-integral-proportionalderivative (CC-PI-PD) controller for evaluation of LFC operation of interconnected multi-source power system (MSPS).…”

“…The 2DOF‐PI plus double derivative (2DOF‐PIDD) controller is applied as SC to AGC of multi‐area system studies in Debbarma et al The advantage of 2DOF controllers over 1DOF controllers is that, 2DOF controller performs better in set point tracking and provides better regulation for disturbance input. Recently, the cascade control scheme attracted the attention of researchers to solve various problems . The cascade controller (CC) provides an additional sensor to attenuate the disturbance before affecting the output quantity.…”
