A Review on Antifungal Activity of Mushroom (Basidiomycetes) Extracts and Isolated Compounds

Abstract: The present review reports the antifungal activity of mushroom extracts and isolated compounds including high (e.g. peptides and proteins) and low (e.g. sesquiterpenes and other terpenes, steroids, organic acids, acylcyclopentenediones and quinolines) molecular weight compounds. Most of the studies available on literature focused on screening of antifungal activity of mushroom extracts, rather than of isolated compounds. Data indicate that mushroom extracts are mainly tested against different Candida species, … Show more

“…In the last two decades, the health-promoting effect of mushrooms had gained more attention due to the large array of secondary metabolites present in the fruit bodies and submerged culture. The potential of wild mushrooms as a source of bioactive compounds has prevented the manifestation of some illness (Alves et al 2013). The medicinal importance of mushroom requires a continuous searching and exploiting wild macrofungi for antimicrobial, antioxidants, anticancer and anti-inflammatory.…”

“…In recent years, the antioxidant properties of mushrooms have been widely reported by many authors [22][23][24][25]. Researchers reported that Auricularia polytricha has lowering blood-fat, antioxidant, antitumor, and immunomodulatory activities [26][27][28].…”
