“…(11)(12)(13)(14)(15)(16) This method was first reported by Papatheodorou and Kucera (13) for preparing SmCl 3 , and chlorides and bromides of other lanthanides and actinides, and then used by Steidl et al (15,16) for preparing GdCl 3 , TmCl 3 , and YbCl 3 .…”

“…Preliminary experiments also showed that the samples reacted with Pyrex glass at above T = 900 K and that the glass ampoules easily broke when quenching from an equilibrium pressure higher than (p/p°) = 2.5 at high temperature. Moreover, the literature (12,13,15,16) showed that at temperatures lower than T = (500 to 600) K, (solid + vapour), (solid + liquid), and solid solutions of (aluminium trichloride + lanthanide trichloride) might coexist and influence the equilibrium to be measured. Therefore, our experiments were made within the range T = (654 to 847) K and (p/p°) = (0.4 to 1.8).…”
