Islam places great importance on moral, environmental and social dimension. Sustainable development is centric to the overlapping factors both Islamic finance and Socially Responsible Investment, which are the economy, the environment and social impact. In contrary, Empirical evidence concerning ESG practice of IFIs and Sharia compliant companies is still lacking. The investment portfolio should therefore be scrutinized on the criteria of justice, social welfare and sustainability. This paper aims to identify sustainability report of Sharia Stocks companies and propose i-ESG index for sharia stocks screening in Indonesia. A qualitative study is used to describe sustainability action doing by Sharia compliant companies listed on Indeks Saham Syariah Indonesia (ISSI) in October 2019. This study found that, almost all the companies shows their Good Corporate Governance, but only a few of company have their sustainability report. Therefore a novel parameter to screen the sharia stocks screening process is urgently needed.

Abstrak: Pembelajaran matematika di SD perlu memperkenalkan ketajaman rasa peduli terhadap lingkungan. Sekaligus pembelajaran di madrasah perlu mengenalkan nilai-nilai Islam untuk siswa MI bahwa merawat lingkungan merupakan amal yang saleh. Dengan alasan ini, maka dirancang Lembar Kerja pembelajaran matematika untuk kelas 1 SD/MI berbasis Islamic Environmental Ethics (IEE). Islamic Environmental Ethics memuat kaidah, bagaimana sebaiknya umat Islam memperlakukan tanaman, hewan, air, udara dan bumi. Penelitian pengembangan ini baru menempuh tahap Define dan Design, belum sampai ke tahap Develop dan Disseminate. Lembar Kerja yang dirancang memuat komponen-komponen berikut: Kompetensi Dasar, Indikator, Ayat Alqur’an, Hadits, Gambar-gambar, Aktifitas-aktifitas, kolom SAFETY dan Motivasi. Aktifitas yang dilakukan dalam Lembar kerja, menggunakan media di lingkungan peserta didik yaitu tanaman, bebatuan maupun biji-bijian.DESIGNING ELEMENTARY STUDENT MATH WORKSHEET BASED ON ISLAMIC ENVIRONMENTAL ETHICS Abstract: Mathematics learning in elementary school needs to introduce a sharp sense of care for the environment. As well as learning in madrasas, it is necessary to introduce Islamic values to MI students that caring for the environment is a pious charity. For this reason, a mathematics learning worksheet for grade 1 SD / MI based on Islamic Environmental Ethics (IEE) was designed. Islamic Environmental Ethics contains rules, how should Muslims treat plants, animals, water, air and earth. This development research has only gone through the Define and Design stages, not yet at the Develop and Disseminate stages. The worksheets are designed to contain the following components: Basic Competencies, Indicators, Alquran verses, Hadith, Pictures, Activities, SAFETY columns and Motivation. Activities carried out in the worksheet, using media in the environment of students, namely plants, rocks and seeds.

Exploring the feasibility of Muzara’ah based Islamic running finance model as an alternative for agriculture credit

Purpose This study aims to highlight the issues encountered by Islamic Banking Institutions (IBIs) while financing the agriculture sector and explore the feasibility of Muzara’ah (crop sharing contract on partnership basis) model based on the concept of revolving credit as an alternative to current models. Design/methodology/approach To validate the proposed model and gauge the feasibility of Muzara’ah contract, a qualitative research method is applied based on 10 in-depth interviews with qualified industry experts and practitioners. These interviewees are selected following the purposive sampling method, and they belong to Sharīʿah board members of banking institutions, banking industry professionals engaged in agriculture lending, financial regulators (i.e. central bank personnel) and the farming community. Thematic analysis was applied to analyze the data. Findings The findings of this study document that Muzara’ah can be a useful alternative/solution for the growth of agriculture sector portfolio of financial institutions. Muzara’ah is cost-effective than other Islamic products, including Salam (a kind of sale in which payment is made on the spot while the delivery of the goods is deferred), and carries the features of revolving credit as offered by conventional banks/counterparts. Research limitations/implications The main limitation of the study is that only 10 in-depth interviews are conducted. Practical implications The application of the Sharīʿah compliant Muzara’ah model based on the concept of revolving credit could help increase agricultural productivity and revenues and reduce poverty and food insecurity. The research will help IBIs to develop products on the concept of Muzara’ah for farmers and other sectors of the agriculture industry. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, Muzara’ah contract is not offered by formal banking institutions in Pakistan. Hence, the findings contribute to the existing literature and facilitate the policymakers and practitioners in implementing this financial product for the growth of the agriculture sector.
