A Prospective Study on Gait-related Intrinsic Risk Factors for Patellofemoral Pain

Abstract: Our findings suggest that the feet of the persons who developed anterior knee pain have a heel strike in a less pronated position and roll over more on the lateral side compared with the control group. The results of this study can be considered valuable in identifying persons at risk for patellofemoral pain.

“…However, the combination of a built-in and fixed FP and PP is really only feasibly in an institute or laboratory and is not practical use in a cost-efficient, mobile clinical environment. Solitary PPs, operational without concurrent FP calibration, have been applied in horses (Rogers and Back, 2007;Oosterlinck et al, 2009) and humans (Thijs et al, 2007). However, before kinetic data obtained with a standalone PP can be used clinically, validation of the system for precision (i.e.…”

“…Despite the lack of consensus on the causes of this condition, several factors are believed to contribute to its development, such as weakness in the quadriceps (8), changes in the posture alignment of the lower limbs (9), abnormal leg biomechanics, (10), smaller knee flexion angle (11), weak hip muscles (12), excessive adduction and internal rotation of the hip (13) and, primarily, kneecap misalignment (8).…”
