The liver keeps haematological parameters normal and preserves haemostasis by storing iron, vitamin B-12, and, folic acid, necessary for healthy haematopoiesis. Anaemia of various aetiologies affects approximately 75% of chronic liver disease (CLD) patients, specifically caused by iron deficiency, hypersplenism, chronic diseases, autoimmune haemolysis, folic acid deficiency, aplasticity, and as a side effect of antiviral drugs. This study sought to observe the derangements in haematological parameters in patients with CLD, analyse the spectrum of anaemia in patients with CLD, and predict CLD outcomes utilizing Child-Pugh Score. This cross-sectional observational research was carried out in the Department of General Medicine, Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS), Dehradun, India over the course of a year. The patients with CLD who were admitted to the ward participated in the study. Most patient’s blood pictures reported normocytic normochromic with thrombocytopenia (TCP) (28.7%), macrocytic hypochromic with TCP (26%), microcytic hypochromic with TCP (13.3%) and macrocytic normochromic with TCP (9.3%). The incidence of anaemia was 85.3%: mild in 12.7% patients, moderate in 55.3% patients, and severe in 17.3% patients. Interestingly, this study also builds upon others suggesting that 85.9% of CLD patients have Class C Child-Pugh Score.

Chronic liver disease refers to a disease of the liver, which had lasted more than six months. The disease process involves progressive destruction and regeneration of liver parenchyma leading to brosis and cirrhosis. This study evaluates the various hematological indices as these parameters are part of an inexpensive, easily accessible, and routinely performed test for almost all patients admitted to health facilities to nd out a correlation between variation in hematological parameters and the illness under study. This study is conducted in the department of Pathology J.L.N Medical College and Associated group of hospitals, Ajmer (Rajasthan) prospectively from July 2019 to June 2020 (one year). In our study, the mean age for chronic liver disease was 44.48±11.84 years and the highest incidence was seen between the age group of 41-50 years (4th decade). M: F ratio was 6:1. Alcohol has been implicated as the most common cause. In the case of non- alcoholic hepatitis B has been implicated as the most common cause. The most common anemia is normocytic normochromic anemia. Microcytic anemia is most common among women. Macrocytosis is almost common with alcoholics. The mean MCV, MCH and MCHC were signicantly higher in alcoholic chronic liver disease patients. Thrombocytopenia is present in more than 30% of patients. In chronic liver failure patients, most of them had abnormalities in hematological parameters. Hence with this study, all the chronic liver disease patients must be evaluated for hematological and should be monitored for any complications. Early treatment to correct these comorbidities can decrease mortality.

Background:- Chronic liver disease ia an end stage disease and hematological abnormalities are common nding in it, adding morbidity to primary pathology and increase the mortality. The study was conducted to assess the hematological abnormalities and haemostatic derangements in CLD patients. Broadly , the hematological abnormalities are viewed under abnormalities in RBCs, WBCs, platelets and coagualation prole total 100 patients who fullled our Methods:- criteria were enrolled in our hospital , king George hospital, Visakhapatnam . patients were investigated after their oral and written consents wherever required. various Results :- hematological abnormalities encountered were normocytic normochromic anemia followed by microcytic anemia. Macrocytic anemia mostly in alcoholics. Leukocytosis was observed more than leucopenia and thrombocytopenia. prothrombin time and APTT were increased. Conclusion:- every chronic liver disease patients must be evaluated for hematological abnormalities and should be treated accordingly as early as possible to decrease mortality.
