A Numerical Study of the Spring-Back Phenomenon in Bending with a Rebar Bending Machine

Abstract: Recently, the rebar bending methodology started to change from field processing to utilizing rebar bending machines at plant sites prior to transport to the construction locations. Computerized control of rebar plant bending machines provides more accurate and faster bending of rebars than the low quality inefficient field processing alternative. The bending process involves plastic deformation of rebars, where bending stress beyond the yield point of the material is applied. When the bending stress is removed… Show more

“…It is effective to use the finite element analysis method for the straightening process of workpieces with complex geometrical features and different material properties. Choi et al 11 performed the numerical analysis for the springback of rebar bending process, as well as the finite element analysis of dynamic mechanical behaviour during the bending process. Zhang and Wu 12 simulated the bending and springback process of minor-diameter thick-walled tube to reveal the springback laws.…”

“…The sheet metal elastically deforms back to recover after V-bending. Minimum bending force to form the sheet material is evaluated by using equation 1 theoretically whereas P is the bending force, th is the thickness of sheet plate, Ϭ t is the tensile strength of sheet material, bl is the width of the plate, c is the bending force coefficient and dw is die clearance [36].…”
