A Novel Triple-Responsive Hydrogels Based on 2-(Dimethylamino) Ethyl Methacrylate by Copolymerization With 2-(N-morpholino) Ethyl Methacrylate

Abstract: A novel triple responsive copolymer hydrogels composed of 2-(dimethylamino) ethyl methacrylate and 2-(N-morpholino) ethyl methacrylate monomers were prepared through free radical polymerization. The structure and morphology of the hydrogels were examined by using infrared spectroscopy (ATR-IR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was found that poly (DMAEMAco-MEMA) hydrogels exhibited pH-dependent smart swelling and shrinking behavior in buffer solutions which is ascribed to the protonation/deprotonation… Show more

“…The FTIR spectra exhibited several main absorption peaks; a well‐defined band at 1723 cm −1 can be attributed to the stretching of CO groups of esters, while the peaks observed in the domain 2800–3000 cm −1 are due to the asymmetric and symmetric stretching of CH bonds in the methylene groups. The peaks at 1355 and 1464 cm −1 are attributed to CH 3 groups in DMAEMA moieties . However, PVP‐modified hydrogel exhibits an additional strong peak at 1672 cm −1 which can be attributed to CO groups typical for PVP …”

“…This, in turn, defines the diameter of pores obtained after careful washing of the hydrogel with water. Optionally, HEMA and EDMA were polymerized with DMAEMA (3.9 wt.%) as a comonomer known for its pH- and also temperature-sensitive behavior that could be exploitable in theragnostic applications [ 32 ]. Moreover, γ-Fe 2 O 3 nanoparticles prepared by a coprecipitation method were incorporated in some hydrogel matrices to render responsivity to a magnetic field.…”

“…The FTIR spectra of the synthesized semi‐IPN hydrogels are depicted in Figure 1 and the registered peaks are in good agreement with the information existing in the field literature. [ 10,16,22–27 ] The characteristic bands of CMS are overlapping the specific peaks of PDMAEMA. However, the CMS IR spectrum (in the inset) presents a peak at 3400 cm −1 attributed to the hydrogen bonds formed between the hydroxyl groups in the starch molecules.…”
