A novel Fe3O4/CdTe fluorescence probe for sialic acid detection based on a phenylboronic acid–sialic acid recognition system

Abstract: A novel fluorescence method was established for detecting sialic acid (SA) by using phenylboronic acid (PBA)-functionalized Fe3O4/CdTe magnetic nanoparticles as fluorescence probe.

“…Moreover, due to gold nanoparticles on the surface of GMNP, the process of coupling antibody on the surface of GMNP was simple and convenient. Meanwhile, CdTe quantum dots (QDs) (semiconductor nanocrystals) exhibit several unique optical properties such as high fluorescence intensity, narrow emission line, wide stimulation spectral line, continuously adjustable emission wavelength along with particle size and resistance to photobleaching (He et al, 2007;Wang et al, 2016;Zhang, Long, & Zheng, 2016), which can be exploited in optoelectronics, biomedicine and food safety detection. In this paper, GMNP bound to the monoclonal antibody (McAb) was used as capture probe, while CdTe QDs labelled with the polyclonal antibody (PcAb) was employed as detection probe.…”

“…Hence, this assay of Nue5Ac was validated with commercial infant formula. 388 A comparatively simpler strategy was proposed by Hao et al , where aminophenylboronic acid was covalently linked to fluorescein isothiocyanate producing the fluorescence probe having excitation and luminescence intensity peak at 493 and 515 nm, respectively, in Tris-HCl (pH 7.40). The fluorescence intensity was completely quenched in the presence of 90 mg reduced graphene oxide dispersion due to the Förster resonance energy transfer from fluorescence probe stacks to reduced graphene oxide.…”

“…Most of the photoluminescence assays of Sia reported LDR within ∼20–5000 μM with LOD ∼10–60 μM. 388–391,393 The solid-phase fluorometric assay could provide a wide LDR 1.3–6500 μM with a LOD of 1.3 μM. 386 The ultra-sensitive Cr( iii )-displacement fluorometric assay with fluorescein sodium dye anchored TpPa-1 could provide a wide LDR of 10 nM–10 mM (although in logarithmic scale) with sufficiently low LOD (7.08 nM) without interference from l -proline and urea.…”

“…Wang et al prepared a PBA-functionalized Fe 3 O 4 /CdTe magnetic fluorescence nano probe to determine SA and achieved a limit of detection of 16 μg ml À1 in PBS (pH = 7.4) buffer solution. 39 Shinde et al synthesized SA-MIP layers on silica core particles about 200 nm in size, and used phenyl boric acid to form cyclic esters with SA as well as fluorescent monomers to facilitate cell labeling. 40 Typically, these nanosensors include at least two steps, NPs synthesis and particles surface functionalization.…”
