A novel echinocandin MIG0310 with anticandida activity from newly isolated Fusarium sp. strain MS-R1

Abstract: Aim: To isolate and identify an anticandida compound from newly isolated Fusarium strain MS-R1 and characterization of its activity against standard and clinical strains of Candida. Methods and Results: The fungal strain, Fusarium strain MS-R1, was isolated from soil. Molecular identification according to the internal transcribed spacer region of the rRNA gene sequence showed the strain to be strongly related to Fusarium brachygibbosum complex. Successive extractions of the active compound showed activity agai… Show more

“…The anticandidal agent had MFC values (killing activity) similar to the MIC for C. albicans , reminiscent of other echinocandins used as drugs, which showed also kill at growth-inhibiting concentrations for most of Candida species isolates (Moore et al 2001). 156 Isochaetomium A 2 351 possessed significant antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli 1.044, Staphylococcus aureus 1.252, and Bacillus subtilis 1.079. 120 Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the active compound 273 ranged from 0.5 to 15 μg/mL.…”

“…155 Masaphy et al report on the purification and characterization of a novel anticandidal echinocandin -MIG0310 510 (Figure 8A) from Fusarium brachygibbosum strain MS-R1 and the elucidation of its molecular structure. 156 Two new cyclic carbonate derivatives, aspergillusols A 511 and B 512 (Figure 8A) which contain an unusual cyclic carbonate functionality, and one new eutypinic acid derivative, aspergillusic acid 513 (Figure 8A) were found from Aspergillus sp. 30 The soil fungus Gymnascella dankaliensis was collected in the vicinity of the Giza pyramids, Egypt.…”

“…Descrita por primera vez por Masaphy (65), la MIG0310 es una nueva equinocandina (figura 1) creada con base en la actividad anti-Candida del espécimen del hongo Fusarium brachygibbosum. En un estudio clínico que incluía especímenes clínicos de C. albicans, C. tropicalis, C. krusei y C. glabrata se demostró actividad de MIG0310 frente a los especímenes de C. albicans con CIM ≤ 3,1 µg/ml (65).…”

“…Recently, a novel echinocandin-type antifungal metabolite, MIG0310, with a molecular formula C (48)H (66)O (18) was isolated and characterized, obtained originally from fungal strain, Fusarium MS-R1, has led to the idea of developing new antifungal drugs against resistant Candida spp. [47].…”
