A new formulation of continuous transverse shear stress field for static and dynamic analysis of sandwich beams with soft core

Abstract: Summary This article presents a novel formulation for sandwich beams with soft core based on a layerwise description of continuous transverse shear stress field. The transverse shear stress field is assumed to follow a quadratic distribution in thick face layers and a uniform distribution in soft core. Based on stress‐strain relations, transverse shear strain is obtained, and in‐plane displacement field is determined by taking the integral of the transverse shear stain. By enforcing interlaminar displacement c… Show more

“…However, the ESL approach fails to detect sandwich structures' local behavior accurately and violate the interlaminar equilibria of the transverse stresses. The layerwise (LW) and zig‐zag (ZZ) approaches have circumvented such a drawback in ESL wherein the variables are linked to specific layers 30‐44 . Thus, a kinematically correct representation of the strain field in a discrete laminated layer is provided 45 .…”

“…According to the modified couple stress theory, Karamanli and Aydogdu (2019) performed a free vibration analysis of rotating sandwich microbeams using the FE method. Ren and Zhao (2020) proposed a new model of sandwich composite beams with a soft core according to a layer-wise description of a transverse shear stress field, and they performed static and dynamic analyses of the beams using the FE method. Sayyada and Ghugal (2019) developed a new sinusoidal beam theory for the bending analysis of FG sandwich curved beams, and they obtained an analytical Navier-type solution of the beam with simply supported boundary conditions.…”
