This article outlines a compressive review on investigation carried out targeting to gain, circular polarization (CP), and mutual coupling reduction in dielectric resonator antenna (DRA). The DRA has already been created a separate position in antenna engineering domain because of its adept characteristics, such as wide bandwidth, high efficiency, low‐loss, and mainly 3D‐design flexibility which is rarely available in conventional antennas. In this context, the research on gain, circular polarization, and mutual coupling are quite interesting and being carried out from the last two decades. The ultimate aim of this article is to (i) give an overview of different techniques adopted in context to gain, CP, and mutual coupling reduction; (ii) give a compressive review of notable research carried out targeting to these three characteristics; and (iii) find out the research gap concentration for furtherance of the same.

The analysis of a circularly polarised (CP) dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) with the aperture coupled feeding technique is presented in this paper. Until now, the random techniques have been developed for obtaining the CP response in DRA. It is glaringly required to develop a fixed mathematical criterion for the selection of dimensions of the antenna structure. The criterion for selection of the stair-shaped slot dimensions, which is utilised for obtaining the CP response, is defined in this paper. The ranges of slot length ratios are investigated so that a wide CP bandwidth can be obtained. The antenna offers the 10-dB impedance bandwidth of 58.62 per cent (4.1 GHz -7.5 GHz) and 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth of 40.86 per cent (4.26 GHz -6.385 GHz).

Abstract-In this paper six novel Dielectric Resonator Antennas (DRAs) providing Circular Polarization (CP) using single probe feeds are proposed.By splitting the fundamental mode of conventional rectangular or cylindrical DRA into two near-degenerate orthogonal resonant modes, CP is obtained. The proposed antennas are numerically investigated using Finite Element Method (FEM). Parametric study on all antennas is carried out. The results show that the impedance bandwidth (S 11 < −10 dB) of all reported antennas is in the range of 112-140 MHz. Also, the Axial Ratio bandwidth (AR < 3 dB) range of presented antennas is 28-33 MHz. The investigation shows radiation patterns of all proposed antennas are remaining broadside throughout the bandwidth.
