A Model Nutrition Control System in Potato Tissue Culture and Its Influence on Plant Elemental Composition

Abstract: Low or excessive soil fertility is a major constraint to potato production. The influence of each individual nutrient element on potato plants under field studies remains ambiguous due to the influence of environmental variations. Creating an in vitro model plant with deficient or excessive nutrient content will provide a more controlled study and allow for a better understanding of how the concentration of one element can affect the uptake of other elements. Here we designed a tissue culture-based nutrition c… Show more

“…According to Taiz et al (2017), the suppression of plant growth and reproduction caused by nutritional stress is related to the essential function of mineral nutrients, which are components of enzymes and the structural constituents of cells. In addition, several researches demonstrate that the concentration of nutrients in the culture medium can affect growth, number of shoots, root induction, biomass production, cell wall composition and the content of volatile compounds (Carvalho et al, 2018;Lawson;Bridges;Adelberg, 2023;Magangana;Stander;Makunga, 2018;Munthali et al, 2022;Sim et al, 2020;Zarei et al, 2022).…”

“…The tissue cultured plants are cultivated in a water based culture with Hoagland nutrient solution and a modified nutrient solution in a closed system, vertical farming, and protected cultivation under controlled environmental conditions. 25 The water based culture enhances morphological growth and metabolic activities in 14−30 days in tissue cultured plant. 26 The water based culture also induces microtuber formation and enhances biomass production, metabolism, enzymes, nutrients, and metabolites in tissue cultured plants.…”
