A Miniaturized Wideband Bandpass Filter Using Quarter-Wavelength Stepped-Impedance Resonators

Abstract: In this paper, we present a simple method to design a miniaturized wideband bandpass filter with suppression of the third harmonic, using only two quarter-wavelength stepped-impedance resonators (SIRs). The resonant modes of the quarter-wavelength SIR, depending on the impedance ratio (K) and electrical length ratio (α), are discussed first. As to setting the resonant frequency of the SIR for the lower band edge of the required band, the size parameters of two quarter-wavelength SIRs can be determined by selec… Show more

“…The impedances of the coupled lines are calculated by the conventional method as described in Eqs. ( 2)- (12). When the coupling coefficient of a particular resonant mode was zero, the resonator could not allow the field to the next one and hence, they were not excited.…”

“…Single-band and dual-band bandpass filter designs are obtained using a multi-mode Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) circular cavity resonator [11]. A miniaturized quarter-wavelength stepped impedance resonators were directly coupled for wideband achievement in [12]. A wideband bandpass filter with three coupled line cross-shaped structures is used for realizing the strong coupling in [13].…”

“…To overcome the problems of large size and high loss of silicon-based filters, this paper proposes a filter structure with a double-layer silicon substrate and stepped impedance resonators (SIRs) [ 18 , 19 , 20 ]. As shown in Figure 1 , this structure is similar to substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) [ 21 ], the double-layer high resistance silicon substrate, and surrounding TSV metalized vias enclosing the transmission line.…”

“…There is an immense amount of research carried out to achieve TZs in a small area. The conventional method is to use transmission lines based resonators such as stub-loaded resonators [1,2] or stepped-impedance resonators [3][4][5] at the cost of large areas. In [6][7][8][9], the folded micro-strip lines are utilized, which bend the overall length in a small area to form the resonators.…”
