The miniaturization of magnetic devices is a subject of enduring interest, since inductors and transformers of very small dimensions are constantly being required for integration into microchips and electrical circuit boards. The main objective of this survey is to supply a compilation of the published research on microtransformers, and to work as a support material, helping in the choice of the most appropriate technology and device configuration for a particular application. The text describes the historical development of microtransformers, the structures in which these devices might be assembled, the various proposed geometries, the fabrication processes, and the type of core used. A brief discussion of equivalent circuit modeling is presented. The current state of the technology in relation to commercial devices is then examined, pointing out some unsolved problems that warrant further studies.

Tactile Sensing Using Force Sensing Resistors and a Super-Resolution Algorithm

This paper presents a tactile sensor consisting of an array of force sensing resistors (FSRs). The tactile sensing array can be seen as a coordinated system of touch sensors. The low spatial resolution measured with the FSRs compared to other force or pressure sensors required the use of a super-resolution algorithm. Super-resolution algorithms are often used in digital image processing to enhance the resolution of images. Multiple images taken from slightly different orientations are superimposed in such a way that a single higher-resolution image is obtained. Different touch sensors are briefly discussed and the use of FSRs is motivated. Image-registration techniques are discussed and the super-resolution algorithm developed for the application is presented. Some tests performed using the tactile sensor in a neck palpation device and the results of these tests are also presented.

В огляді здійснено аналізу відомих літературних даних про явище тензое-фекту в тонких і товстих плівках металів, стопів або композиційних мате-ріялів з металевою основою. Розглянуто відомі напівклясичні та феноме-нологічні моделі для одно-і багатошарових плівкових систем, наведено ре-зультати їх апробації і вказано ступінь відповідности розрахункових і екс-периментальних результатів. Зроблено висновок про значну роль так нази-ваних деформаційних ефектів, врахування яких дає хороше узгодження з експериментальними даними. Проаналізовано найменш вивчене питання фізики тонких плівок про температурну залежність коефіцієнтів поздовж-ньої та поперечної тензочутливости. Наведено численні експериментальні результати, які підтверджують теоретичні висновки. Проаналізовано ріж-ні аспекти практичного застосування плівкових матеріялів як чутливих елементів тензодавачів.The analysis of literature results concerning tensoresistive effect in thin and thick films of metals, alloys or composite materials based on a metal is presented. Well-known semi-classical and phenomenological models for one-and multilayered film systems are considered, results of their testing are presented, and the degree of conformity of calculated results with experimental ones is specified. A conclusion is drawn concerning significant role of deformation effects, which are taken into account to give satisfactory conformity with experimental data. A least studied problem in physics of thin films concerning the temperature dependence of coefficients of longitudinal and transverse tensosensitivity is analysed. Numerous experimental results, which confirm theoretical conclusions, are presented. Different aspects of practical application of film materials as sensitive elements of strain sensors are analysed.В обзоре проведен анализ известных литературных данных по тензоэффек-ту в тонких и толстых пленках металлов, сплавов или композиционных материалов с металлической основой.
