A Kinetic Study of Acetylcholinesterase Inhibition by Fractions of Oleo diox Roxb.leaf and Curculigo orchioides Gaertn Rhizome for the Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease

Abstract: Introduction and Aim: Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) has an important role in the biochemical studies indicating that AChE accelerates the formation of amyloid-β fibril and forms AChE-Aβ complexes in the brain. The medicinal plants of Curculigoorchioides Gaertn., and Oleo diox Roxb.  collected from Western Ghat region of Kodagu, Karnataka, India have many medicinal values such as antioxidant, anti-cancer, anti-diabetic,  neuroprotective activity and anti-inflammatory property. Aim of the study was to check whethe… Show more

“…The extracts demonstrated strong AChE inhibition, with values > 60% at various sample concentrations (10, 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 μg/mL). The phenolic compounds are known to be neuroprotective exhibiting AChE inhibitory activity and could be one of the main approaches for the treatment of AD ( Pratap and Shantaram, 2020b ) ( Pratap et al, 2021 ). The neuroprotective action of the methanolic extract of Olea dioica Roxb.…”

“…Acetylcholinesterase was effectively inhibited by the extracts of C. orchioides rhizomes, suggesting their potential use in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease (Pratap and Shantaram, 2019). Curculigoside remarkably reduced NMDA-induced loss of neuron cells, apoptosis, necrosis, excitotoxicity, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in cultured cortical neurons.…”
