A joint resource allocation and link adaptation algorithm with carrier aggregation for 5G LTE-Advanced network

Abstract: Carrier aggregation has been introduced by 3rd Generation Partnership project (3GPP) in order to meet the IMT-Advanced requirements. Using carrier aggregation, multiple component carriers with a different bandwidth, dispersed within intra or inter bands can be simultaneously utilised to provide higher data rates, better coverage and lower latency resulting a better user experience. However, carrier aggregation functionality requires modification to the radio resource management function of the network. In this… Show more

“…Channel dependent packet schedulers are more accurate in real life scenarios as they consider more parameters than channel independent schedulers. Most of the previous researchers have used proportional fairness (PF) [5][6][7], Round Robin (RR) [8,9] and other algorithms [10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17] for resource allocation with CA in an LTE-A system. However, some important parameters, such as packet delay or error rate are not considered.…”

“…Some resource scheduling and management schemes have been proposed for LTE systems in the last several years [18]- [22]. A special simulation platform was developed for a cognitive LTE system [23], and SA is an important technology in the 5G mobile communication system [24].…”
