<span>eXtensible Mark-up Language (XML) has been widely used as the de facto standard for data exchange over the Web. It is crucial to ensure that the data can be mapped correctly into the underlying data storage format, that is, without any lost of information. The two mapping strategies are structural-based and model-based. The structural-based mapping involves the presence of Data Type Definition (DTD) for schema mapping while the model-based mapping does not require the present of DTD or any schema for the mapping purpose. The structural-based mapping is good especially for data-centric type of data, i.e., data which is structured and can be binded into certain schema. As such, this paper evaluates and compares the performances of two selected existing structural-based mapping via simulation. Two main evaluations are: (i) storing the XML data into relational database (RDB), <br /> and (ii) querying the XML data from the RDB. The time taken for each respective process will be recorded and compared. From the experimental results, it is observed that the s-XML approach outperformed the SAX approach in terms of storing and query evaluations for most of the test cases conducted.</span>

Diagnostic tests are used to determine anomalies in complex systems such as organisms or built structures. Once a set of tests is performed, the experts interpret their results and make decisions based on them. This process is named diagnostic reasoning. In diagnostic reasoning a decision is established by using both rules and general knowledge on the tests and the domain. The artificial intelligence community has focused on devising and automating different methods of diagnosis for medicine and engineering, but, to the best of our knowledge, the decision process in logical terms has not yet been investigated thoroughly. The automation of the diagnostic process would be helpful in a number of contexts, in particular when the number of test sets to make decision is too wide to be dealt with manually. To tackle such challenges, we shall study logical frameworks for diagnostic reasoning, automation methods and their computational properties and technologies implementing these methods. In this paper, we present the formalization of a hybrid reasoning framework T ℒ that hosts tests and deduction rules on tests, and an algorithm that transforms a T ℒ theory into defeasible logic, for which an implemented automated deduction technology (called Spindle) exists. We evaluate the methodology by means of a real-world example related to the Open Web Application Security Project requisites. The full diagnostic process is driven from the definition of the issue to the decision. The size of semi-structured data is increasing continuously. Handling semi-structured data efficiently is a challenging task. Keyword search is an important task, and required information can be retrieved without having knowledge of data storage hierarchy. There are several challenges in handling XML data. This chapter discusses various challenges in terms of lowest common ancestor (LCA) semantics, processing of queries efficiently, retrieving top-k results for user needed data. The existing approach is defined under many classes based on how the problem and solution are tackled. Analysis of keyword search and ranking techniques for retrieving desired information are discussed in detail.
