A hybrid fuzzy-PEM stochastic framework to solve the optimal operation management of distribution feeder reconfiguration considering wind turbines

Abstract: This paper proposes a new stochastic framework based on point estimate method to solve the optimal operation management of Distribution Feeder Reconfiguration (DFR) considering several Wind Turbines (WTs) in the system. The proposed method can properly solve the complex and discrete DFR optimization problem by the use of an adaptive modification approach based on firefly algorithm (FA). In addition, a new stochastic solution based on 2m Point Estimate Method (2m PEM) is proposed to handle the uncertainty assoc… Show more

“…Apart from the uncertainty associated with the output power of the wind turbines, WTSs are suitable choices to generate electricity. Employing the Transmission Switching (TS) in the Security-Constrained Unit Commitment (SCUC) increases the security of the power network, voltage inconstancy and leads to contingency improvements [1][2][3][4]. Hence, the TS approach has been vastly investigated by researchers to handle contingencies in power system.…”

“…Hence, the TS approach has been vastly investigated by researchers to handle contingencies in power system. In [2][3], the TS is utilized to implement the security benchmark of treat N-1, and also to deal with the overvoltage and power flow improvement which is also pursued in [4]. Authors in [5][6][7] investigated one of the challenges in TS studies based on selecting switchable lines because of the TS implementation on reliability test system (RTS).…”

“…The core idea in the approximate methods is using some nonlinear mapping between the input and the output domains using the first few statistical moments in the probability density function (PDF) of the randomness. This article uses the PEM as a wellknown and successful approach, in which a problem with ρ uncertain parameter is solved 2ρ times to capture the uncertainty effects [24]. In 2ρ-PEM, each PDF is replaced by two generating points of concentration using the mean and the standard deviation parameters of the uncertainty [40].…”

“…A novel hybrid method based on stochastic programming of a point estimate method (PEM) is proposed to capture the uncertainty effects due to the renewable energy sources, electrical load demand and energy price. PEM is an efficient and enough accurate method, which tries to make a nonlinear mapping between the input and output of a nonlinear function with the limited number of concentration points [24]. In order to have a practical analysis, a social-economic framework is proposed to not only mitigate the interconnected microgrids operation cost (and thus benefit the customers), but also enhance the social factors such as the average energy not supplied (AENS).…”

“…RESs come in a varied category such as wind turbines (WTs), photovoltaics, tidal units, geo‐thermal units and so on. Through such a wide range of resources, many advantages are achieved in the distribution system including lower power losses, improved voltage profile, reduced costs, enhanced reliability and less planning investments [3–5]. Nevertheless, the appearance of these RESs has affected the whole power system strategies.…”
