A High-Speed 84 Gb/s VSB-PAM8 VCSEL Transmitter-Based Fiber–IVLLC Integration

Abstract: A high-speed 84 Gb/s vestigial sideband (VSB)-eight-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM8) fiber-invisible laser light communication (IVLLC) integration based on vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) transmitter with injection locking scheme is proposed. To the authors' knowledge, this study is the first to realize a high-speed 84 Gb/s VSB-PAM8 VCSEL transmitter-based fiber-IVLLC integration. It is effectual to adopt an optical VSB-PAM8 signal in fiber-IVLLC integrations to suppress the linewidth of … Show more

“…The performance of the conventional Volterra equalizer and the TDD-Volterra is compared, and the parameters of these two equalizers are optimized to achieve their best performance. Volterra (151,23,15) and TDD-Volterra(71, 11,11) are used in our test. As shown in Fig.…”

“…In order to further increase the transmission capacity under the condition of current bandwidth-limited components, PAM8 may have a potential to realize beyond 100 Gb/s transmission. Up to now, many schemes based on PAM8 have been reported for long-haul and short-reach applications [11]- [18]. For example, an 84 Gb/s vestigial sideband PAM8 signal transmission based on verticalcavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) is demonstrated for fiber-invisible laser light communication [11].…”

“…In this paper, by considering the constraints of the cost, bitrate, distance and security in the data center, we have proposed and experimentally demonstrated a secure 100 Gb/s IMDD transmission over 100 km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) using quantum noise stream cipher for the first time. To eliminate the power fading caused by chromatic dispersion, we utilize a dual-drive Mach-Zehnder modulator (DD-MZM) to achieve single sideband (SSB) modulation for its simple structure and convenience [26], [27]. Therefore, power fading can be effectively mitigated, and no CD compensation is required.…”

“…When it comes to transmitters, the community has already developed attractive solutions based on vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs). VCSELs are respected as compact components -on-chip interconnect solution [26], PAM8 data modulation [27] and parallelization with 39 µm pitched multicore fibers [28], [29] have already been convincingly demonstrated. Just recently, 700 Gbit/s data modulation have been demonstrated with a VCSEL array coupled to a 7-core multicore fiber [30].…”
