            carbon foam for high performance supercapacitors

Here we present the study of supercapacitors based on molybdenum disulfide and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate) (MoS 2 /PEDOT: PSS) composite electrodes deposited by spray-coating. To produce the MoS 2 / PEDOT:PSS composite ink, dispersions of hydrothermally synthesized MoS 2 and PEDOT:PSS were mixed in different weight proportions. Electrodes containing only PEDOT:PSS and MoS 2 were also fabricated for comparison. The composite films were deposited by transferring the as-prepared inks to an airbrush coupled to a modified 3D printer base with in-line displacement. The films were characterized in terms of the scanning electron microscope (SEM), Raman spectroscopy, and sheet resistance. The electrochemical properties of supercapacitors were evaluated by cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge/discharges (GCD) techniques, impedance spectroscopy (IS), and their correlated parameters. The maximum specific capacitance of the MoS 2 -basedsupercapacitor was estimated to be 145.9 F g −1 at 1 mV s −1 , while the 3:1 MoS 2 /PEDOT:PSS weight ratio supercapacitor exhibited a specific capacitance of 131.1 F g −1 . Despite the slightly lower C SP , the 3:1 device provided a better overall performance, with a remarkably higher energy density of 11.2 Wh kg −1 and a maximum power density of 1020 W kg −1 . It also displayed better longterm cycle stability, retaining 92% of its initial capacitance after 1000 CV cycles (against 54% of MoS 2 devices). In summary, we demonstrated the study and production of a high-performance supercapacitor with spray-deposited MoS 2 / PEDOT:PSS composite electrodes, in which the production can be easily scalable for mass production and practical applications.

Metal co-doping of metal oxide nanostructures is a promising approach for enhancing the electrochemical performance of supercapacitors. Herein, calcium (Ca) and cobalt (Co) co-doped ZnO capsules (Ca-Co@ZnO) were fabricated using a facile and single-step hydrothermal process. The physical, chemical, and morphological properties of the Ca-Co@ZnO were analyzed using a range of characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. Ca-Co@ZnO showed a remarkable supercapacitor performance in a 3 M KOH aqueous electrolyte. The specific capacitance was 1020 F/g at a current density of 0.75 A/g, which was 3.2, 1.7, and 1.6 times higher than the pristine ZnO, Ca-ZnO, and Co-ZnO capsules, respectively. Ca-Co@ZnO showed more than 50% capacity retention at a higher current density and strong cycling stability up to 5000 cycles with only 8% capacity loss. The Ca-Co@ZnO//Ca-Co@ZnO symmetric performance was also investigated. This device showed a specific capacitance of 187 F/g at a current density of 1 A/g and an energy density of 25.9 Wh/kg at a power density of 556.6 W/kg.The superior performance was attributed to the fast electron accessibility, strong ion diffusion, and higher active sites. Overall, the superior electrochemical performance and novel structures could be beneficial for developing metal co-doped metal oxide electrodes for supercapacitor applications.

The rapid growth of the global economy has substantially increased fossil fuel consumption, which brings about two challenges: the destruction of the existing fossil fuel reserves and the emergence of severe environmental problems, such as climate pollution. Therefore, developing clean energy resources and relevant technologies is an urgent priority. In this regard, the enhancement of energy storage technologies and devices gain paramount importance. Two types of energy storage devices are batteries and supercapacitors. Supercapacitors, especially, double layer supercapacitors and pseudo‐capacitors, have attracted more attention than batteries. They possess better characteristics, such as higher‐power density and longer cycle life‌. Various nanocomposite materials, such as carbon (graphene or carbon nanotubes), metal oxides (sulfide), and conductive polymers, are used in the construction of supercapacitor electrodes. Among these materials, tin (IV) sulfide is the most widely utilized material as its layered structure is capable of forming two‐dimensional morphologies. Owing to its abundance in nature, nontoxicity, and cheapness, tin (IV) sulfide is regarded as a promising material for constructing efficient electrodes. The faradic behavior of this material also makes it suitable for supercapacitor applications. The present review article aims to survey and summarize the findings of the studies on tin (IV) sulfide and its utility as an electrode material in supercapacitors. This article also gives an overview of the solutions proposed to improve the performance of this material in supercapacitors.
