A Flexible Caterpillar‐Like Gold Nanoparticle Assemblies with Ultrasmall Nanogaps for Enhanced Dual‐Modal Imaging and Photothermal Therapy

Abstract: Gold nanoparticle (AuNP) assemblies (GNAs) have attracted attention since enhanced coupling plasmonic resonance (CPR) emerged in the nanogap between coupling AuNPs. For one dimensional GNAs (1D-GNAs), most CPR from the nanogaps could be easily activated by electromagnetic waves and generate drastically enhanced CPR because the nanogaps between coupling AuNPs are linearly distributed in the 1D-GNAs. The reported studies focus on the synthesis of 1D-GNAs and fundamental exploration of CPR. There are still proble… Show more

“…Furthermore, the high-resolution SERS imaging could evaluate the distributions of gold nanostars in tumors which were closely related to vascular density. With wonderful optical properties, one-dimensional gold nanoparticle assemblies (GNAs) with good dispersion, stability, and biocompatibility were developed for in vivo imaging (Xia et al, 2018). The GNAs exhibited numerous ultra-small nanogaps (smaller than 1.0 nm) and flexible caterpillar-like nanostructures, which could change their morphology randomly.…”

“…PDT involves the generation of cytotoxic reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ), from photosensitizers (PSs) under the light of a specific wavelength to oxidize adjacent biomolecules and consequently kill cancer cells . In addition to small molecule agents, many nanomaterials including gold nanostructures, silver nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, magnetic nanoparticles, 2D materials, quantum dots, porphysomes, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), NIR dyes encapsulated nanoparticles, and semiconducting polymer nanoparticles (SPNs) have been widely developed for PTT and PDT.…”
