A facile synthesis of 1,3,6,8-pyrenesulfonic acid tetrasodium salt as a hydrosoluble fluorescent ink for anti-counterfeiting applications

Abstract: In this work, 1,3,6,8-pyrenesulfonic acid sodium salt (PTSA) was successfully synthesized via a one-step sulfonating reaction and exhibited the potential in anti-counterfeiting.

“…On the other hand, pyrene derivatives can also be used to prepare fluorescent inks for the preparation of fluorescence labels by writing and printing. [32][33][34][35] Much effort has been devoted to the functionalization of pyrene in order to improve the fluorescence properties. [36] Most of the efficient strategies involve transforming pyrene-based ACQ luminogens to AIE through the adjustment of the twist conformation of the substituents.…”

“…In the past several years, various fluorescent materials have been explored in the preparation of water-based anti-counterfeit ink, such as organic fluorescent dyes [ 4 , 5 ], rare-earth luminescent materials [ 6 , 7 , 8 ], carbon dots [ 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ], organic polymers [ 13 , 14 ] etc. Compared with other fluorescent materials, organic fluorescent dyes have the advantages of easy access to raw materials, more variety, bright colors and a low cost.…”

“…[1][2][3] Vital requirements for developing a new generation of advanced anticounterfeiting systems have prompted extensive research on novel anticounterfeiting materials. [4] Optical fictionalization by the characteristics of being easy to read and hard to copy has been a typical security aspect in the anticounterfeiting systems. Various optical functional systems using anticounterfeiting materials, such as photoluminescent and plasmonic nanomaterials, as well as quantum dots have been effectively developed.…”
