“…For instance, the method based on iron reaction with 1,10-phenanthroline has been used in selective determinations of Fe(II) and Fe(III) contents. The above method uses both the fact of forming multi-coloured complexes determined sequentially at different wavelengths: 396 and 512 nm for Fe(III) and Fe(II), respectively (Harvey et al 1955), and sequential determinations of Fe(II) and total iron following the reduction of Fe(III) to Fe(II) (Feres and Reis 2005;Galhardo and Masini 2001). 1,10-Phenanthroline has also been used in sequential determination of iron forms in direct colorimetric determinations combined with colorimetric titration (Kochana and Parczewski 1997).…”

“…[23][24][25][26] The multicommutation process [27][28][29] has been used as an efficient tool to handle solutions. The system manifold is constituted of a set of solenoid valves, 29,30 and a peristaltic pump or several solenoid micro-pumps employed to propel the solutions. [31][32][33] The manifold, constituted of solenoid valves 30 or solenoid mini-pumps, [31][32][33] is controlled by a microcomputer in order to insert the sample slugs and the reagent solution into the analytical path.…”

This resource was used in order to reduce both reagent consumption and waste generation.…”

“…The FIA methods with no preconcentration step (Pascual-Reguera et al 1997) present a very high detection limit, whereas other FIA methods with a preconcentration step (Blain and Treguer 1995) present low detection limits but still have some disadvantages such as high reagent consumption and high effluent generation. Other existing flow approaches such as SIA (Morais et al 2005), multicommutated flow (Feres and Reis 2005), and multisyringe flow injection (Gomes et al 2005) present lower reagent consumption but still inadequate detection limits for natural water samples.…”
