A cooperative mobile robot and manipulator system (Co-MRMS) for transport and lay-up of fibre plies in modern composite material manufacture

Abstract: Composite materials are widely used in industry due to their light weight and specific performance. Currently, composite manufacturing mainly relies on manual labour and individual skills, especially in transport and lay-up processes, which are time consuming and prone to errors. As part of a preliminary investigation into the feasibility of deploying autonomous robotics for composite manufacturing, this paper presents a case study that investigates a cooperative mobile robot and manipulator system (Co-MRMS) f… Show more

“…There are extensive and versatile works which investigate issues of learning Robotics and developing students’ computational thinking. Investigation of robotic systems is represented by a number of works aimed at the raise of the productivity of labor in the production (Yang et al, 2022 ). Educational Robotics has a positive effect on developing students’ computational thinking (Ioannou & Makridou, 2018 ).…”

“…[11] Therefore, grippers play a crucial role in the manufacturing industry. Examples of grippers are vacuum suction cups [14,15] and electrostatic chucks. [10,16,17] They must be able to carefully handle DOI: 10.1002/marc.202300352 transported flat objects, which are typically thin, brittle, and fragile.…”
